zp vrs f-111/slider

Could anyone tell me if there is much deference between f-111 slider and a zp
slider? It's for a mojo
I'm interested in the opening speeds and any other problems with zp sliders on f-111 canopies

James, if you are using it for BASE, don't! There was a big discussion on the board about sliders just last week. And in my experience in Europe last year, mesh sliders work great at terminal for BASE.

Hi James,
The trolling effect of a ZP slider is indirectly proportional to the surface area of slider X. Since a slider is 2D, then this means that that you´re dealing with only a square equation...
ie....LxW (length times width)as opposed to a cubic equation, ie LxWxTroll factor(a).Or LxWxTx
which now is quadratic....so as you can see if you multiply C6 (vertebrae) with the ego, ExLxWxTx this a quintratic equation that only the most experienced Mathamaticians can work out assumming
you have given them the weight of the camera and helmet weight plus your ego, times the velocity at point of decelleration rate.

Hi James -

I'm a little confused...are you trying to get a really slow opening on a BASE jump? I've never heard of anyone using a ZP slider on a BASE jump, but that doesn't mean that it hasn't been done.

If you have the opportunity, try jumping a "tall" object without your camera helmet several times to get a feel for terminal BASE openings.

And if you do not have a tall object to jump prior to going wherever your going, try this:

1) If you are sucking it down to the last bit of altitude on a terminal BASE jump, use a mesh slider.

2) If you'll be pulling above bare-minimum altitudes and desire a "softer" opening, use a sail slider.

Both sail and mesh sliders have been used successfully in Norway - but from my understanding, mesh sliders have become the slider of choice for most jumpers in Norway. But this is not to say that a sail slider isn't appropriate - it's just a matter of choice.

Thanks for the help. I think I'll takes some of your advise and jump it a few times
with the mesh slider from our plane. It's the only way to know for sure! Just have to
find a big container.
Be for I go, why can't someone just cut a small hole in a sail slider and make it
bigger and bigger in till the opining suits you?

Hi James -

Your BASE canopy will open differently if packed in a skydiving set-up...due to deployment bags, etc.

I've used my sail slider on my Mojo on several terminal jumps. It doesn't snivel at all. It simply slows the opening down *a little bit* when compared to a mesh slider. I've taken a sail slider to terminal and deployed at approx 500ft and still had plenty of canopy time.

I'm not saying that you should throw a sail slider on and smoke it down to the basement. But unless you are going *really* low, I see no reason why you should worry about using a sail slider on a BASE jump.

A mesh slider will certainly give you a consistently fast opening at high airspeeds, but for some, it may do so uncomfortably.

I can think of another positive side to using a mesh slider all the time - there is no need to re-rig your system between jumps. No sliders to interchange. Just a mesh slider that you can use for high and low speed slider-up jumps...and you can simply tie it down for slider down jumping.

But if you don't mind changing sliders, a sail slider is a proven method that works quite well.
