    i want to be a hero@the prine

I heard through the grapevine today that there a couple of people that have been taking advantage of the news media at the prine.jumping off the rail . and jumping the bridge with water skies. with no boat support . And that the local law enforcement was involved. why do these people want to be a hero?is it because they cant get attention. Or is it because they have allready burned up there local sites.I dont know who you are and i dont give a ---- but its time to stop.My children and other basejumpers children will not have a future in basejumping if acts like these continue.please dont take my childrens future away .Use your brain. And respect sites that belong to you and others.one last word you are not a true basejumper unless you have discoverd a site jumped it alone and never told anybody about it.

Who are you these questions directed towards? Is it wrong to be featured on the news? Why would water ski jumping and top rail jumping mean that these individuals have burned there local sites? How do you know that the Perrine is not their local site?

I viewed the news broadcast and it did not involve law enforcement nor top rail bailing. thus, your facts are not correct.

The broadcast was polite and even complimented and expressed gratitude towards the city and the locals... JT Holmes was quoted saying "we love to jump in Twin Falls because the locals embrace the sport." Shane McConkey spoke of the beauty of the canyon and the wonderful opportunities provided be the 486 foot bridge above the snake river... these were some of the polite words and they were full of respect.

Please identify yourself, your affiliation and/or answer these questions. and please be careful with that solo jumping stuff... that is dangerous.

also you wrote: "respect sites that belong to you" what does that mean?

To me it at least impies a current disrespect and that is something that sure was not evident with the news broadcast. Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

RE: i want to be a hero@the prine

This is absolutely appalling. Okay, theohuckstable, I noticed that the only hobby you have listed in your profile is SKIING...does this mean you support jumping with SKIS?? If my hobby is swimming, should I wait until I hit the water before I realize the sensible thing to do is pull? Then, I can show off my FLOATING ability. So let's be realistic.

"Is it wrong to be featured on the news?" Is it not wrong to be featured like THIS? If it's not wrong, then I'm calling up every local station and heading to the nearest B. Then, I can show everyone what a bad-a$$ I am for jumping off a building...screw the rest of you, "I" want to make "myself" look cool, so I'll burn "your" object so all of "you" can't jump it anymore...as long as "I" look cool.

Well, I guess I'm about to go to the nearest LEGAL site to be polite, express the beauty there, compliment and express gratitude to the locals, and then I'm going to jump a$$-naked with a beer in one hand and my rig in the other...as long as "I" look cool, right? And yes, I did make that comparison.

Corkscrew says, "Use your brain. And respect sites that belong to you." I agree. I'm missing a fifth of my brain, literally, almost my entire right temporal lobe was taken out...but I know that ALL of us are entitled to the bridge, I know the rules, and I won't sacrifice your privileges for my own ego.

So could the "suspects" in this situation forget your ego, remember the rest of the BASE community, and please not burn OUR site? Go skydiving if you want to look cool.

I think you are missing the point.

It doesn't matter if the jumpers are being really, really nice to the people that are taking their video back to the news station, and making them heros, and fueling their egos even more. The fact is that there are certain people that think they are above the rules, and that is going to suck for everyone else.

-Twin asks not to jump from the railing. You can have the plank out there. If you can't deal with that, go jump the other legal bridges where the cops don't even show up to check up on us during big weekends...

-Think twice about potentially jeopardizing the bridge that so many people enjoy, and the bridge that so many students, possibly including yourselves, learn at safely, in the daytime, legally, with a huge lz, etc, by "teaching" people how to BASE jump with zero skydives...

-Jump with waterskis if you want. However, when the Sheriff asks you not to, DON'T DO IT AGAIN!!! Instead, simply spit in his face, call him names, and tell him to f-off...

-Invite the news out and show them how safe and responsible you are. As long as you aren't breaking every rule that TF politely asks you to obey, or telling the news cameras how safe you are, not having a boat waiting for you at the bottom. Bring the news out to advance our sport, and our position and reputation in TF, NOT to advance your RedBull powered egos.

I can't imagine a world where all government entities were as open to BASE as TF. They couldn't be any better to us. They have weekends where they post posters all over town, advertising that there is an extreme weekend, with BASE jumping, etc. They make it a point to keep the cops away, and the town loves us. But, given a finger, some take the whole hand. Fuel your egos by burning stuff, but to be so foolish to disobey the rules in TF is just wrong. Very, very wrong. And I think if there are any repercussions from your actions, there will be some jumpers that would like to "talk" to you.

I would start hiding, Felix Juniors...

Damn, I thought if TF shut down the bridge, it would be because of some student going in, and attorneys scaring the bridge closed. I never thought that it would be because BASE-gods #### all over the good people who allowed us access to such a great site...

    THANKS!!! }(

Why don't you do the same?

I think that "Corkscrew" is pretty well known in the sport, and his login name alone pretty much lets me know who he is. How about you?

    > To me it at least impies a current disrespect and that is something that sure was not evident with the news broadcast.

I bet the Sheriff thought there was some disrespect shown in the broadcast.

    Positive Notes at perrine

    Hi cocerned BASE folk;

We are not burning the Perrine, and relations have been positive and healthy all across the board. I am JT Holmes one of the ridiculed people.

firstly, let's be realistic, water skis aren't illegal to jump off of the bridge and you do not jump them from the top rail anyways. You might call it a gray area, but I think it is more like off white.

Don is drawing attention to the scene by notifying the police of our antics and creating attention and problems where ther otherwise would be none. I mean come on, if you want to preserve an object the last thing you do is call the cops or notify them and tell them there is a problem. the more the cops have to work or waste their time the more keen they will be to discontinue use.

secondly, No one jumped from the top rail on the news, nor have any calls been made from recent top rail bailing so on that side of the issue I must plead -no harm no foul.

and yes we have all agreed to tone down the use of the top rail.

I simply feel more comfortable jumping from the top rail and I am a safety oriented jumper...that is why I \have used it select times in the PAST and wont anymore.

gotta go to class will respond more later... and please trust that I love and wantt o preserve the bridge like all of the rest of us... without it, i would not have such a perfect place for BASE jumping and deathcamping.

please be do not hate me, I am a good person and so are shane and miles and we are polite and respectful ambassadors for the sport.

    jt
we must not cause more turbulence ourselves on an already minor and docile situation.

RE: i want to be a hero@the prine

you say: "I would start hiding, Felix Juniors..."

    is that a threat????

that sounds like a threat and that is out of line especially if you are not even involved with this situation and do not have first hand knowledge of the happenstances... I take it as at least an insult... You need to cool down.

Things are good up here in Twin. The weather is great, the plank is out and the boats are in the water...

And oh yeah... you need to work on your sentences, some of them do not make sense.

One of yer sentences says we should call the sheriff names and spit in his face and tell him to f-off...? what are you talking about dude? get a clue... that is not the answer. You seem to be all over the place on this issue.

    BAAHAAHAAHAA!!!!!!!
THANKS FOR THE GREAT LAUGH GUYS!

MADE IT ON THE BASE BOARD AGAIN! WHEEEE.......THIS IS SO FUN!
I LOVE LISTENING TO YOU GUYS CRY ABOUT STUFF YOU ARE UNINFORMED ABOUT.

    1. WE'RE WRONG ABOUT USING THE TOP RAIL A FEW TIMES. OOPS, SORRY.

    2. DON'S WRONG ABOUT CALLING THE POLICE ON US JUST TO TEACH US A LESSON ABOUT THE RULES. YOU DON'T EVER CALL THE POLICE ON BASE JUMPERS EVER! ALL THIS DID WAS GET THE COPS THINKING THERE ARE ISSUES AT THE BRIDGE. THERE AREN'T.

DON HAS DONE A LOT FOR US THERE AT THE BRIDGE AND BOTH JT AND I HAVE RESPECT FOR HIM BUT THE WATER SKI RULE THAT HE DECIDED TO MAKE IS PRETTY RETARDED. GONNA KEEP DOING THOSE JUMPS CUS THEY ARE FUN.
OH, AND THE LOCAL NEWS STORY HAD A GREAT SHOT OF JT DOING A WATER SKI BASE JUMP TO SKIM LANDING. THIS IS NOT WATER SKIING ALL OVER THE RIVER. ITS SIMPLY LANDING A PARACHUTE IN A UNIQUE WAY. THE LOCAL NEWS STORY WAS GREAT FOR BASE. QUITE POSITIVE. GET OFF YOUR COMPUTERS!

You're not going to make any friends with that attitude.

    >1. WE'RE WRONG ABOUT USING THE TOP RAIL A FEW TIMES. OOPS,
    >SORRY.

It seems as if you really don't care about the rules. You're taking a "so what" approach to this. You all knew rail jumping is against the rules, but you did it anyway. And a simple "oops, sorry" will make up for it? Even worse, JT says he's merely going to "tone it down" a bit.....

    >GONNA KEEP DOING THOSE JUMPS CUS THEY ARE FUN.

Did the cops nix the waterski jumps, or did Don? If the cops asked you not to do it, then I can only hope you respect that.

You guys are great jumpers and definately friends of mine, but please respect your fellow jumpers. Saying you're sorry won't be good enough if the Perrine gets shut down.

    RE: Positive Notes at perrine

Okay, it's time for me to come clean.

All the jumpers involved in this nonsense have been doing a great job of not mentioning my name. So, I guess I'll have to talk about myself, myself. Name's Jimmy Halliday and the only reason any of these shinnanigans took place recently at the Perrine is because I begged those guys to break the rules so that I could get good shots for my next video. Really, I cried like a girl after the first response by these otherwise concientious and law abiding B. A. S. E. jumpers: "No Jimmy we can't jump water skis or do side by side triples off the rail. It just wouldn't be right." Quite embarassing, myself crying like a girl, but effective. Eventually, they broke down and broke the rules...for me.

Now, I understand that this was wrong. But at the time I was overcome with the desire for cool footage. I'm sure the desire for cool footage will eventually lead to the nation-wide illegalization of our beloved sport and the beloved sport of our future beloved children. Hell, someday it might even be the death of me.

Regardless, I'm sorry. I might even be just as sorry as someone who may or may not have done pre-bridge day, bridge day jumps. Could you imagine being the guy who got bridge day cancelled just because he couldn't wait for the day itself?

So, here's what I'm going to do; since, really, it's all my fault. I'm going to tape over the footage I got recently of my friends (friends, despite their hugely inflated egos)with flat and stable exits off the plank. Apparently, that's what the entire community wants to see anyway. I'll stop asking, no begging, my buddies to push the envelope of themselves and the sport in favor of the much more "BASICALLY correct" (that's a new phrase I just coined, it means politically correct except it refers to B. A. S. E. jumping)jumps that don't offend anybody.

Hope you all like my next video. I'm making it for the community, according to the community's wishes, in order to entertain the community as well as promote our beloved, and usually law-abiding, sport

Well, I think people would rather have a warm and fuzzy feeling that the bridge is not being burned and they will be able to jump as much as they want to in the future than have a warm and fuzzy feeling that you are getting cool footage for a video.

I think (based on hearsay) that Don made the rule up. But, regardless, the Sheriff did ask them not to jump with the skis, and they did later jump with the skis, and the jump with the skis was on the local news (and I bet the Sheriff saw the news).
