Lauterbrunnen Landing Areas

Attention All:

The farmers are getting pissed off by jumpers landing on there property, especially in the south end of the valley.

Talk to the local jumpers about where to land on certain jumps.

Dont dilly dally and talk about how rad your jump was, Bag your canopy on the other side of the fence.

One of the good things about jumping in the snow there was you can smoke it and land at the bottom and walk thru the farmers fields because they are covered in a foot of snow ..

I've jumped in Lauterbrunnen before, but perhaps things have changed over the years regarding landing areas. Can you elaborate on the friendly landing areas for the main jump sites, or at least provide an email to discuss privately. We'll be there in late July and want to make sure we don't step on any toes.....thanks.

yea the farmer's seem to be a little uptight, might have something to do with the accident by the yellow ocean wall a few months back.

The one hot spot seems to be at the South end of the valley, the Gimewald tram jump. All the fields at the base and across the river are bad. Use the small road on the cliff side of the river, yea the one with the power/phone lines beside it. Makes it a little tough if you like to hummit.

The owner of the fields claims he will bring in the police if he sees anymore landings in his fields.
Might be a lot of talk, but don't need to step on any toes, since there is a public gravel road to land on.

Had no problems with Staldenflue or Stäubbach

Has anyone talked with these farmers and offered to pay them a "landing fee" of $5-$10 USD?

It seems to me they might be receptive to the idea and, even if they aren't, making the attempt shows appreciation and respect for their property and might make them a little less grouchy about it.

Or offer them a bottle of wine or a six-pack... anything to give THEM some value for the valuable service their property provides.

This was tried by someone we met jumping 2 summers ago. THe farmer wanted nothing to do with it.
He basically said:
Stay off the grass! Land on the road. If the grass has just been cut, then land there, but get off immediately.
Never stand or stay on the grass ever!!!

yes we talked with one farmer.
at first he was pissed off...but they are knowing that the jumpers bring money to the village and the farmer i talked with is willing to find a solution.no cash for each jump..but maybe it´s possible to rent a stripe of the field close to the forest( yellow ocean)where the grass is less usefull for him.the jumpers or responsible associations should try to follow and to find a solution..like that the comunity pays a fee for a jumping season into a official box
and at the end of the season the 2-3 farmers get their part out of this.if there is a swiss association they should work it out at first and talk with officials in the village.

Thanks for all the info guys im going to lauterbrunnen in two weeks. Itll be handy to know were not that welcome down the bottom end of the vally. Although ive never had any problems there in the past. Ill keep my eyes open for irate farmers with shotguns.

A farmer explained it to me last year:
They need gras for their cattle. There's not much room there, so they need all the gras they can get from their fields. If they don't get enough from the fields, they have to go to the steep areas and get it there, which is a hell of hard work (I tried it).
If you step/land on gras that has grown long, you bend the hem and make it rot. If you step/land on gras that just has been mown, it's not so bad.

Conclusion: land on the mown fields and land close to the road. If there's a path, land on it.
