I had a call last night that was devasting news. I am lost for words where I normally write freely.
There has been a tragic accident in Lauterbrunnen. Big Nik had a wall strike while jumping Murren. He did not recover and was found shortly afterwards at the bottom of the wall.
I am overwrought with grief. I really loved the guy.

Nik's coming back to Portland on Saturday, August 10. There will be an informal memorial service at Wilhelm's Funeral Home,6637 SE Milwaukee Ave, Portland, OR, on Sunday at 4:00 PM. Everyone who can make it is invited. Nik's party....for everyone...will follow, but details are still to be hammered out.

Worst news I've heard in a looong time. Nik was a very nice guy and I'm sorry to hear about this tragic incident.
A group of his firends are making a big way jump in his honor and memory here in Norway.

We are here in Switzerland with Nik and will be doing a memorial jump for him here also. Probably tomorrow.

I remember him giving me ##### at Bday 2000... He unpacked my rig and made me repack it for practice--then made ME buy him a beer for his time! I was looking forward to seeing him again this year to let him know I was still ok at over 100 jumps and jump the low bridge with him because he refused to take me at 2 jumps.

I will be out near portland next week. someone please let me know if there will be an services in portland . I will be heading to the point to make my jump for Nik.The first jump I ever made with Nik, slim did his very first aerial off a cliff. then we headed out for some jumps off the RV on the near by "S" call me slim if you want to talk. I will sure miss you mate

Words cannot convey my sense of loss. Nik was such a big part of so many of our lives. He was (and is, in my memory forever) a gem of a man; I felt fortunate to call him a friend.
Yesterday was a day I wish never happened; that is a phone call I'd trade many years of life to have erased forever. My heart goes out to Dwain and the others who were there with him at the time of the incident.
Good on you, mate: you lived your life fully and completely every day, by your own standards and so often in the service of others. I cherish your memory, and the jumps we had together.

I only met Nik briefly, but I liked him from the start. He had a strength of character that few people have, whether he was elbow deep in accident victims or flicking an object with his undeniable ability and style. Nik, I wish I would have had the opportunity to earn my Psilution t-shirt and loan you some nice things for your next d.q. jump...it would have been so much fun! Good journey to you, Nikolas, and I hope to meet you again someday. You left this life too soon for us, but I suppose from your side you're right on time. Thank you for your contributions to life, to BASE jumping, and to your friends. You are well loved and will be missed.
