    RE: Containers

There are a lot of different containers out there, and the ones br, cr, vertigo, gs ect are all excellent "safe" containers. I have not heard of any causing malfunctions due to design. You need to gain exposure by ground crewing local base jumpers from your local dz (if there are any). I would highly recommend taking a structured course through one of the manufacturers. Vertigo, and basic research both offer those. There may be others. I personnally have three Visions made by gs. The container is easy to close and closes very securely. The canopy is completely covered by the top and bottom flaps, so the side flaps don't take a lot of the pressure when closed. There is plenty of room in the rig, especially if you have it made for your specific size canopy. I jump Mojo 280s in my rigs. It has excellent openings, a slow forward glide, responsive to rear riser inputs immediately after low speed/altitude openings, recovers quickly from turns, and is very sinkable. It is made by consolidated rigging. Many of my friends jump Fox canopys in reactor containers. The fox appears to have a faster glide, and the new v-tec is supposed to help pressurize the canopy faster at low speed deployments (than the previous model Fox). Also the new Dagger by vertigo has been getting xint reviews.
Again, you should gain as much exposure to BASE as possible from locals, check out what gear they are jumping, watch them pack it and jump it. And preferrably contact one of the manufacturers for training.

    RE: Containers

    Yo,

I've just got a gargoyle pin rig from Morpheus Tech and it has some of the best workmanship I've seen, I also like the way it is designed to be shorter than most BASE rigs so that the PC is around the same sort of area as your skydiving rig. Although there are pros and cons to each type of rig you will probably want a velcro rig at the beginning to reduce potential rigging problems and to tell you the truth I haven't seen their Medusa rig yet but if it is as well made as the Gargoyle you will not be disappointed.

I also have 2 Reactors from BR which I would make no hesitation in recomending but basically if you go with any of the major manufacturers you know you are getting #####-hot gear.

    Hope this helps,

    Craig

    Hey Craig:

Can you elaborate on this? I really liked the Gargoyle's design, but I don't think I'd want to jump a rig with the PC in a different location (no desire to do a high speed face plant while fumbling for the out of place PC). Are you saying that the PC handle is up high on your back (like say, a small free fly rig)?

    RE: Containers

    Hi Tom
Just a quick explanation of the harness/container design. The container is only a couple of inches shorter at the most. This is based on the canopy size. Combined with a variable yoke length and custom harness sizing, the container sit's just below the small of the back, irrespective of the jumpers height. Hopefully, this has answered your question. Have you looked at the pictures on our website, under Products... Gargoyle and Medusa? My wife is 5'5" and I am 6'2". The containers sit in the same place on the back on both of us. Finding the PC has never been an issue.

    RE: Containers

I also just ordered a Gargoyle, mainly due to my observations of the rigs they had on display at bridge day and in comparison to my previous orders with most of the other base manufacturers. I got some good vibes from Robert on his workmanship and attention to detail. The legstraps are well padded, which I found to be a big bonus among other extras. I'd buy the Medusa also, if I needed another velcro rig.
I think if you sit down and ask several base jumpers about the flaws in other rigs, you'd find that Morpheus has solved them. I'll know more when my Gargoyle arrives. These are my opinions only.

    The Odyssey

To anyone looking to buy a new BASE rig, I highly recommend the Odyssey by ParaTech Rigging. I own two of them and they are my favorite rigs.

    This is why:
    * The pack tray is very clean. By this I mean that there is nothing to restrict the canopy during deployment. Having a clean pack tray can help reduce the chances of an off heading opening or line twist.
    * With the articulated harness and padded leg straps, the Odyssey is the most comfortable BASE rig I have ever worn.
    * The riser cover flaps are sweet!
    * The shrivel flap is just right.
    * Delivery time is 4 weeks for a custom rig.
    * The price is very competitive.
    * It's bomber! Colin has excellent workmanship.

You can check it out at ParaTech's website at www.skydivebase.com

    RE: Containers

It's all good but I don't know about buying gear from folks who only make a few base jumps a year ...
