    cleaning dirty gear

The other night I missed my intended landing area and landed in some smelly river mud. Most of the mud on the canopy fell off after it dried but the lines and pc are still pretty dirty. The containor I'm not to worried about.Should I just put the canopy and lines in a tub to rinse it?
    thanks,

    RE: cleaning dirty gear

    I had a similar landing a while back. Here's what I did:

I let all the mud dry, then cracked off as much as I could, and shook the canopy out. It was still dirty, but didn't have enough mud on it to really weigh it down.

Then, I went out and took about five 3 second slider down delays from a 700 foot span to shake off the dirt. Presto! Clean(ish) canopy. The extra alititude and the span were to make sure that if it snivelled or opened weird, I'd be ok.

I would worry about the PC, though. You can do a similar "opening" cleaning by tying the PC to a truck, then tossing it out the window at forty mph several times. Even after doing that, I'd wash the PC in clean, fresh water. The PC is just so much more sensitive than the canopy, since it has so much less surface area. If you have doubts about the PC's openings after that, just toss it and buy a new one. 75 dollars is a small price to pay for the rest of your life.
