    tower info

does anyone know the different websites to get specific tower info? I've been to http://www.americantower.com and that seems to be info for only that company and it's affiliates. What about government towers? Other companies? Any help would be appriciated.

    RE: tower info

We use two sites which get one started, from there its just a little detective work to figure out how much POWER is going into them. Obviously AM is BAD. BUT we try to stay away from mega-wattage sites, eyeballs can heat up, and the vitreous can coaggulate!
    Hope this helps
    cheers

If you consult a VFR Sectional chart(which can be obtained from a pilot shop or your friendly local skydiver driver) it will illustrate every object with its height of mean sea level(MSL) and the height above ground, which is in parentheses below and to the right of the MSL #. This is the main source that I use since it shows roads, rivers, power-lines, towns... Some other companies are: richland towers.com, and anisite.com.

Yeah, I have most of the local sectionals for my area, but It gets expensive to cover 3/4 of the US with sectionals. I was looking more for a "quick" informational kind of thing--if for nothing else, to help me plan road trips ;)
    thanks for the info yo!

You don't have to buy sectionals for the whole US, they are available online. They are not that easy to navigate on the web, but it gets the job done in a pinch. I do prefer to have a hard copy with me though.

It's not too hard to find out the call sign for the local tv and radio stations. Then go to fcc.gov and search by the call sign and it'll give you latitude and longitude for the antenna and hight above ground.
