    The Perrine

I have a quick question that you might be able to help me on.

I was going to make my first BASE jump at Bridge Day this year and was pretty bummed out when they cancelled. A good friend of mine who was also going to make his first jump called me and said he was going to Twin Falls, Idaho to jump the Perrine Bridge. He said that he first heard about the bridge while reading this discussion group, so that is what's brought me here.

I'm think that I'm set as far as equipment goes. I have a Racer with a PD-210 and I plan on packing it with the slider at the bottom of the links. I also have a 40 inch pilot chute from my rigger.

The thing that concerns me the most is going head-down on exit. I've heard that this is the most common problem when making your first BASE jump.

My friend has made 4 Balloon jumps and says that all you have to do is look at the horizon and it it's a piece of cake from there. I'm sure it is, but I'm still concerned a little bit.

Is there anyone willing to offer a "first-jump" couse if you will. There's 3 of us going and I promise you that we'll be most grateful if any of you could helps us out...heck, we'll even by you dinner.

We've been looking forward to making our first BASE jumps for 5 months now, and we were pretty darn excited to find out that there is another legal bridge in the US.

We look forward to meeting some of you next week!

    Kevin

    RE: Racer?

If you're going to Idaho to BASE jump,
then leave your skydiving gear at home.
None of the jumpers should let you jump that $4!T.
If no-one else tackles you at the exit, I will.
    This is not Bridge Day.
The Perrine is only 485', and should require BASE gear.
The BASE community needs to be self-regulated,
and to preserve that site, skydiving gear should be banned.

    RE: The Perrine

Batter up! Dude, Ill likely be there after Moab. I so much as see a skydiving rig near perrine and I will blind side you myself. Fortunately, this was a troll having some fun. Nice one. But its still a possible issue we need to police; this is the first bridge day cancelled, there is a possibility of people actually doing this because they dont understand what the difference is between perrine and nrgb. P.S. twin falls apparently doesnt mind suicides at all... the last one they let float down the river while they spent 6 hours looking for a boat, a body bag, a hook, a diver, etc. Nearly said screw it because fishing out the body would make them late for lunch...

    Skydiving rigs at Perrine

All you little ignorant children are so totally clueless it makes me laugh. Many MANY successful low altitude jumps have been made with Racers with big pilot chutes.

And remember, scared little kiddies, Perrine is a BRIDGE over DEEP water... you could leave the Racer on the bridge and jump with the pilot chute and still have a successful and injury free jump.

So save the drama queen stuff, children, and go get a prescription for testosterone, as you obviously have none.

RE: Racers are not BASE gear

    Reactor with Dagger 222,
    Racer with Comet 228,
Javelin with Triathlon 135 or Stiletto 135,

    depending on...

    object height,
whether it's a wingsuit jump or not,
how far I have to walk in,
how many jumps i want to make before repacking,
whether i'm at perrine surrounded by ignorant thugs.

by the way, youngster, how many times have you jumped from a site that no one else has ever jumped? Lemmings fo'shure is what most of you kids are 'cause ya don't have the balls or background to think or act independently.

    RE: no one else

hell yeah i've jumped stuff that no-one else has, and then went back with some bros to do them some more. at least twenty objects i made the first flick. never made any base jump with any type skydive rig either. i may be youngish, but i've made hundreds of base jumps. you claim to be an old timer, and let me guess, you have maybe over one hundred base jumps, right? maybe even a hundred and twenty in your twenty something years of base jumping?

by the way old timer, when was the last time you crept out of your aluminum cave to make a base jump? have you ever even jumped the perrine?

    RE: no one else

WEll, kid, my hat is off my bald head to ya. It's very cool that you have lots of "first descents..." most of the young ones don't do that. So congratulations on being a new pioneer and good luck to ya.

Speaking from experience, I'd say a pilot chute alone creates insufficient deceleration to have a "successful and injury free jump" at that object.

    RE: The Perrine

call vertigo base outfitters in Moab, Utah. They regularly run 1st BASE jump courses at the Perrine, and can offer you BASE-Specific gear to use, too. Don't phuck around with a racer...they even suck as a skydiving rig.

Launch with your chest to the horizon,

Looking at the horizon and launching that way is what causes head down exits as you are launching head first in that scenario...
better yet, get an instructor or at least donīt follow your friends advice... and follow mine..
