Hey Gang,

I have a Mac G5 with dual 1.8 processors,
dual hard drives, 8 gigs of Ram, and it
is running 10.3.9 OSX.

BUT the operating system is out of date,
can not be fully upgraded, plus now one
of the processors is toast...

It still runs iTunes, iPhoto, and Firefox
just fine with only one processor but it
is choppy when playing HD GoPro.

So I am considering two ideas:

A) buy a used Mac G5 for $350 online
move my Ram and extra hard drive
to the newer machine, use older G5
for parts, plus the new machine
should have a slightly newer OS

B) buy a new iMac with extra Ram
and sell all of my existing G5 stuff

Primary computer uses are simple:
Word, Excel, Photos, iTunes, plus
some occasional video editing.

Thanks in advance for good advice.

FYI you can install free versions of Linux on a Mac like Ubuntu.

Think it this way, if operating systems were cars, Windows would be a beat-up Yugo, Mac a Ford Fiesta, and Linux a Porsche 911 twin turbo pushing 700+ ft/lb!

Linux is like race car It dose a job well for what you use if for, but not much of accessory, specially cool games. The reason people buy MAC is they don't want to learn to use PC, definitely ant going to use Linux. Tom I never buy a use computer from online, something go wrong you are stuck, even on craigslist or newspaper ad. PC you can get parts easy even for notebook but I still well not buy a use computer.
