Ueli had a bad crash a couple of days ago on a building jump where he hit another building on the way down before surging into the ground. He is in a coma now. Head is swelling. Please WAKE UP UELI. Sleeping now is avoiding the pain of the elbow, hip and pelvis surgery but it is time to feel it and come back to us MAN. I'm praying for you brother. You are an inspiration! I've heard of a saying from a jedei that goes. Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose. I'm getting really tired of that training GOD DAMMIT! Throw us a bone and please help Ueli recover in the next few days!!!!!!

Bro, I hope your Red Bull buddy is going to make it. However, I've never seen George Lucas jumping off anything, never believe the fat man when it comes to action. Don't confuse facing your fears with no respect for your own life. Getting old ain't that bad after all and chicks dig dirty balls!

Ueli passed away this afternoon.
He was a pioneer in BASE jumping and develped the sport, not only by his actions as a jumper but also as a face of BASE jumping in Switzerland to the media and normal public.
He will be greatly missed.
My deepest condolence to his family and his girlfriend.

As a guy who's been skydiving for 25 years, with 2 base jumps('91 & '09 from NRG bridge) and has been pursuing a lot of passive base jumping knowledge lately, I have been often reminded of the old saying, "There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but no ...".

That saying makes sense when said to the straight-off-aff types who are getting ahead of their skill level, but loses effect and is juat an out-of-place comment when you're talking about someone with Ueli's level of experience and time in the game.

Not attacking you for saying it, but it's a bit of a cliche`.

I'm old and bold. So suck it.

Fly free Ueli. We never met, but everyone who talked about you had nothing but the best to say.

You will be missed.

I'm sorry that my comment to some comes off as tactless and trite--I guess I knew that it would. It's just one guy's opinion. I find such reports quite sobering, that's all. RIP

I saw the video of the jump. Much was not in view, but it seems he tripped over the adjacent building? correct? Does anyone know anymore details?

Also, people mentioned that his head was swelling. I can NOT ascertain if he was wearing a helmet. And if he was, what kind was it?

I saw the video as well and what I took from it was that he was too low to make his desired landing area (the street) and tried to make it anyways, clipping the edge of the building directly below him. More information on this would be awesome.

Ueli Gegenschatz soars in a wingsuit | Video on TED.com (http://www.ted.com/talks/ueli_gegenschatz_extreme_wingsuit_jumping.html)

I never met Ueli but I remember hearing his name and seeing this video of a presentation that he did. Sounded like a pretty cool guy with a lot of skills. Sorry to see another skilled jumper die.

I think this is about as much information that you can get. Anything else Ueli was the only one who could tell you. But I think your observation is realistic in terms what happened.
