Medford has been home to its share of notable aeronautical achievers. Godfrey Chevalier was a pioneering Navy pilot who in 1922 became the first to land a plane on a moving aircraft carrier. Amelia Earhart was the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, in 1928.
