Base-jumper Hans Lange managed to avoid serious injury after jumping from the side of a mountain in Norway.

He escaped with just a broken leg after his parachute failed to release properly, and he landed in a tree.

Flying down a mountainside in a specially designed suit is now popular among base-jumpers.

BBC News Channel presenters Jon Sopel and Sophie Long describe how the dramatic jump unfolded.

I'm curious as to how/why the bbc got this video. Did Hans give it to them, hoping to educate people about the dangers of base jumping? Or did it reach them by other means.

Either way, Im glad he got out alive. Anyone know if thats a vented canopy he was flying?

It was a local Tv station who aired the first report about how it happend with Hans! The story went national, then international trough their network! Now he is on his way to NY for a tv show!

I'm pretty sure they have a few second delay so they can edit out those oh-so inappropriate remarks and not offend the delicate sensitivities of soccer mom's across the country.

Still, pretty damn funny. You can hear laughter from somewhere behind the camera.
