I heard BASE 1024 was issued two or three weeks ago. There are some interesting numbers coming up based on the radio "Ten-Code" used by the Police:

10-31 Crime in progress
10-32 Man with gun
10-33 Emergency
10-34 Riot
10-35 Major crime alert

BASE 1031 would be neat . . .

Congrats BTW!

Why don't you make this thread sticky, it would be a place where jumpers could check, to see what's the latest BASE number.

NEWS FLASH FROM THE PROMISED LAND (EUROPA)

#4790917138 is the highest number we have issued til now on Offheading. That means we are a step forward here in Europe. We have also a little bit rougher practice here, since the numbers must be tattooed on the right shoulder. There is a debate going on right now if we should start tatooing the numbers on the foreheads insted, so they can be visible to the general public and other (oversees) jumpers even wintertime, when thick clothes are required. The Holy Moly Jesus Jumpers(HMJJ) hardliners protested on that saying the number on the forehead could be misstaken for being the number of the beast (which will come soon to earth!!!)and demanded mooving the number tatoo to the lower arm. The Jewish Base & Kosher cooperation protested on that claiming this kind of tatoo could offend ex convicts jumpers from Holocaust (Aushwitz&Guantanamo)...or something, huh..huh...

hey spiderman, no point taking the piss,

we are all intelligent enough to realise that BASE numbers are not a reflection of the number of people that have jumped the 4, but some of us just like to be attached to the history of a certain individual... its a respect thing... nothing more.. nothing less..

Nick_D
September 29th, 2005, 03:33 PM
You said that very well, Mac.

It's like we knew Elvis, except I didn't think of Carl like that at the time . . . If I had just a little more forethought I would have followed him around and been sitting there every time he opened his mouth.

Congrats to 1029 and 1030!

Good things have staying power and if the BASE numbers someday go by the wayside then it will be time. However, I'd wager twenty years from now someone will still be awarding BASE numbers. Does anyone here think offheading.com is still going twenty years from now?

would say that Spiderman has alot of respect for BASE,atleast he wouldnt jump whith me last time he payed a visit, however his a perfect GC as even his foot were really BAD,he were the one recovering my unconcius boby from the tree i had desided to fly INTO(not from above).Im happy that i could scare him by waking up while he were hucking me.

Becourse you dont want a BASE#,or feel that the Carl B. thing is kind of "pop" at this point dosnt mean that people has no respect for BASE,actualy i know serval people whith out BASE# that respect BASE more than many whith a # does..

Actualy(whith out putting words or surgesting i know, abot Carl)i think Carl would see the funny part in all this..I see him as a calm relaxed person and i dont think he wanted discussions like this i like to see him as a person looking at all people as equal,no matter a # or not....

by the end of the day im a BASE JUMPER not a part of the history(just yet),so why all that talk about it..(somtimes i get affaid that we one day need to werrify ourself by handsigns and go whith funny headwear(oh well :p )

Spiderman,i still dont have your mail...Lene and the kids says hello and whish you a speedy recovery(well,it cant really be speedy at this point i guess, but atleast we hope you heal ;) )

Dude. Dont remind me on that horrible story. We really thought you were "game over". (I havent been running again on my ****ed ankle ever since then). With that poor artificial light and your white face hanging upside down the tree a dead person looks more alife than you did. Now announcing BASE 1036

The Qualifying Jumps:

“B” Sun November 16, 2003 approximately 2:30 am - **** ***** – Tampa FL - 485 feet. This is an excellent building to jump. The roof access is all but unguarded, and access is a breeze. The landing area includes a water out, and a huge sidewalk on two sides of the building.

“A” Thursday May 29, 2003 5:30am – TV Antenna ****** FL – 1680 feet. This was a very solemn jump, as I was going to jump the very antenna that *** had died on. I met *** when I went to a DZ up north few years back, and as the anniversary of his death rolled around, it was only fitting to do a memorial jump. Went great, spent the rest of the day at Deland jumping.

“S” Thursday January 1 2004 6:00am – ******** Bridge – ******** Massachusetts. This bridge was very tricky, and looking back was not a good bridge to jump given my inexperience at the time. The only exit point was above the road way, on the structure of the bridge. The bridge it self, is 135 feet above the water, and the structure of the bridge is about 70 feet above the road, so the only option was to jump from the upper railing. The hitch…Mass State police headquarters is at the base of the bridge, and there is live feed for traffic updates. Luckily this was in the middle of the winter, and the Cape was dead. The water had frozen over, but there was no guarantee as to how thick the ice was. Landing in the water during the summer months is unheard of due to the overly strong currents in the canal. My LZ was going to be a walking path on the side of the canal, but by the time I maneuvered over that way, it was clear I was going to land on the ice below. Trekking across the ice was the scariest part of the jump. With every step I knew that I was going to fall through the ice into the freezing canal, and get swept under the ice. What a way to start the new year!

“E” Sunday Sept 11 2005 – 10:45 PM – Phosphate pit – Central FL – 290 feet. I originally thought that I would have to go to MOAB or Nor Cal to get my “E” (As I live in FL and it is FLAT) but a few nights ago I heard some mine workers talking about a pit that was going to be emptied out and filled in. Knowing that some of these pits can be very deep, I enquired as to how deep this one was, and started talking about how much rock and sand it would take to fill it. I went to the site, and expected to find a very narrow hole with water filling most of the bottom, but to my surprise, there lay a hole about the size of ½ of a foot ball field with a gently sloped north side and a sheer vertical south side. In fact the south side of the pit had actually been under cut, as to offer a slight over hang. I was SO excited! To make my last qualifying jump just miles from where I had started BASE! I immediately went to the truck, and got the range finder, first measurement read 291 feet, second measurement read 292 feet. It was a matter of minutes before I was geared up and ready to flick! I jumped it 4 times that night, and plan to return before the said fill in.

So far I have been very lucky in all of my experiences. Finding this new world has surely saved me from dying from a life left lacking.

OK Pete, that was definitely the funniest thing you could have said on top of that building. Jet lag my ass.....you called me on that one and I cant remember the last time I laughed that hard at an exit point, but you gotta admit my Jedi mind powers were in top form when I got that security guard to take us to the construction elevator, then got us past a foreman and several workers getting in there.

Hey Pete, remember how freaking scared you were.... I never saw you like that before man, it was great.

The last email I got from you was when you sent me this link:

Craig,

Is there any way you can calculate the trend line equation each year or between each '00 number going back? Just curious on how the trend compares between years and approaching the 1000 and above the 1000.

Craig,

With only 130 odd data points, I don't think doing it by year or by hundred is going to show very much, so I've applied trendlines to what I think are the obvious ones on the chart (although I think the sport was too young under number 200 to get anything meaningful from those numbers).

I've included the equation and the R-squared value but they don't mean much to me. You're the expert Mac; can you glean anything from them other than what is already visually apparent?

WEll,
why is this an item of interest ? If ya number is under 200, you weren't there
for it anyway!! Your number is your number. In time it should be obvious
where you fit in. I mean, i do understand the interest in the milepost of
1000 but thats long past. GET YOUR number and wait -- it will be low
if you stick with it. ****, I always thought my number was high until
a friend of mine related a story in a bar when he said , "hey I know number
xxxx (skydiving Dnumber) and the guy was amazed. I still think of my D number as high, but its getting lower all the time. It will always be high as long as istel and sanborn are still here.

ok, I am just killing time watching my favorite Christmas movie (Bad Santa - though it really ruined The Alamo, cause Billy Bog just aint right there ).

More importantly, the things Gaddy does for $20!

Hey if you really care about three digits apply for your Night-BASE number. You do have all objects at night, right? With the perrine and moab its surprising to see how many people never have gone to jump a cliff or bridge at night.

All this is of course second to WHO GIVES A SHIT! You got what you got and it is what it is. :)

yeah! truthfully, i can give a Fart about my BASE Number anymore. And if i were to do it all over aagain, i probably wouldn't even apply!

and what "hamsandwich" said.;;; if ya wanna a low (3 digit) BASE number get a night BASE. In 2006 you could get a sub-200, "shiite"- a sub 175 number and that was in 2006.

it dont mean snot! when you got your "number"/"card" in the mail did it change anything? nope! YOUR STILL the same schlub you were the day before. i Used to think BASe would some how change me or sum shiite like that? nope!

IF YOU have more jumps from feed silo's, smoke stacks and cranes etc. does that make you less a fixed object jumper. IN a lot of case's those three item's can be higher than a lot of your typical "B.A.S.E." exit point's.

i'm still the same guy, IM NOT A BASE JUMPER! Im the "Same guy" i was before who now participates in parachute activities (hopefully from fixed stuff).

It (BASE number) was for me a goal after i passsed AFF, just like a couple other things/place's that i've already done and now?
IT'S funny at what i thought was cool to do in BASE at one time and now what i think is pointless in BASE?

Don't mean to be so synical. I know some people are really proud of their BASE numbers . So proud they name them selves and refer to other's by their numbers instead of their names. Almost in a military fashion?

but whatever each their own.

bye :(

True, my BASE number does not mean as much as it did to me when I got mine, and the reasons I applied for it do not apply to me now, but I still hold it, and hold it proud. So I dont flash it about as much as I did when I received it (I too, changed my user name to my BASE number because I wanted to shout about it at during that time of newbie 20 jump wonder feelings), but after time and experience I realised it meant nothing more and nothing less than a set of jumps I will remember forever and give me a link to the start of this activity that I respect. It became personal. When I write down a telephone number that ends in my BASE number I will switch quickly to my B jump that got my number, or the E which I really should not have done, that flash of memory re-lighted from a telephone number is worth it... its obvious that it meant more then than now, but it still means somthing now...

That little grin or smile when you see a number plate, or a telehone number, a price tag, a bus number, or a balance sheet liability? That shit can not be bought.... who else gets to smile or receive a flash of memory of something really fucking emotional from something as simple as a number, a number that means nothing to anyone else? Not many............ that is why its worth applying for it...

So right on the mark....

My self (454) and Chris (453) of that awesome Hotel at midnight.... Wait, we are still not sure how many people actually got their number on a BLUE Moon as w did. That alone topped off entire experience. Not for anyone be us two.

Chris actually reminded me last summer about our anniversary of that jump.

I do not think I would have the same memories, and joy if I was doing it for anything but myself....

Although i did mean my BASE number with the above quote, THE emphesis was actually 'other' things i thought made you a "BASEjumper" and now i don't really consider my self a BASEjumper and consider some the stuff/jumps i did pointless (to me).
And now have other aspirations for the time spent in the persuit of Fixed Object Leaps.

And I do notice everytime my "number" comes up. I enjoyed your post mac.

And thanx for diggin' for all the threads you dug up lateley!
