I would suggest that people continue their pertinent discussion of the ABP here instead of dropzone. A skydiver non base jumper Sangiro can do as he likes with his own skydiving website, but one way of having cats drink out of the same saucer is to communicate without interference or pause by disinterested third parties. Robin Heid is pertinent to the discussion as it was his actions which dissolved the BOD, his past of which a lack of historical knowledge continues to "doom us to repetition". This community is small enough to be a real democracy with all participating, and technology is advanced enough for us all to be directly heard in all decisions or organizations which represent us or deal with OUR issues. I am sure we can do this here, if we choose to participate. We dont need representatives, we can be a true democracy and operate on the front line. Here. Basejumping is not a tiny little part of skydiving. We have our own website without being interrupted mid conversation. If you have a voice speak. If you have something to say, Join in...I for one am tired of being referred to as a small child, with need of some big name to do my thinking for me, or tell me what I can or cannot do, say, or think.

Hmmm..

I joined ABP and donated $100 because :

I agree and strongly support the idea
I have met SOME people involved, and have heard many good things about the others who I have not met
RH I have never met, but have heard/read plenty of. I don't have any desire to formulate an opinion at this time, BUT - if he was the only person that I knew of in the organization, I would think twice of joining it and donating my sweat earned money - for the simple reason that a good idea is not enough for me to fork over some cash.

So simply put - at the current state of things, political fighting within a new and a VERY SMALL organization is not something I am interested in supporting ...

sorry for the run-on(s) ....

As I understand it; to become involved in politics, one must first sort out ones own politics. These are growing pains, those involved must stay the course or be doomed to fail. Evolve or die. Dont give up on the overall picture so easily. If we can work things out amongst ourselves, particularly amongst negative elements and disparate aspects of our own character and community, then we will find it much easier to deal with the NPS and associated opposition. Because of peoples donations they have a right to this resolution, a right to expect maturity and progression in an organization they have invested in.

Are they fighting ? (hear anything that I might like to read ? )
Everyone that was dismissed from the organization seems to be pretty quiet
and taking it like a man. I don't read any complaining posts from x-staff.
Most of the posts on DZ were from people that are Opinionated or confused Members.
I like all the people that were dismissed even though I was not a suporter/member. They all seem to be pretty heads up people .

Getting Fired (from a non-paying job) must suck but sometimes good things can
happen and be opened up for Better in the end. May be a blessing rather than a loss ?

well - from the posts from the now axed members - it seems they were fighting when they were part of organization. Perhaps not FIGHTING, but were definately having an internal struggle of some sort.. not that it really matters now.

I agree too - hashing this further would be complitely pointless, the bottom line is that the ABP that I (we) donated it is not what it promised to be, but I really dont care to blame a particular person. Live and learn, right ?

agreed 100%

could be. but really, who cares ? we are still here. I personally dont beleive the ABP can really do much damage - so worst case scenario some have tried, some have donated money, some have donated time. If it failed, hell, at least the effort was positive ( some will argue of course  )

for now - JUMP MORE, BITCH LESS, PACK FASTER.

I'm just not sure what to say. I was interested in supporting ABP becasue Gardner, Jason Bell, Tom, Marta, Jimmy and Todd were involved, but I did hold back and not contribute primarily becasue Robin was involved. Robin has good intentions, and I believe that he has done some good things for the sport. The problem is that Robin has a serious personality disorder. Every so often he just loses it, and this is the result. If his desire to advance BASE was stronger than his desire to garner praise and be "the Man", we would probably have access everywhere by now. Unfortunately it seems that he will never be able to sort this stuff out, put his ego aside and actually work for the good of base, not for the good of Robin.

It is comical that his reply is that the ABP has determined that the only way it can advace BASE (call it backcountry parachuting or what ever) is by allientating itself from the base jumping community. That the voice of a few is stronger than the many. That a few can accomplish more work than an entire community. The best one is that all the failures of the past were becasue of political infighting, so.... lets have the mother of all political fights and eliminate 90% of all jumpers from the ABP and keep that from happening.

Leadership is the ability to set a course, find concensus and hold a group together. By saying it cannot be done Robin is addmitting wholesale that he simply does not have what it takes. You cannot gain political ground without support of the community. The community will not support King Robin. The NPS must be reading about this and laughing their arses off.
