A group of four California base jumpers acting
independantly of Avery's group have decided to
support the protest of the ban on base jumping in
yosemite valley. According to their organizer
who allegedly has 98* jumps or more in the valley,
Avery has a good idea and feels that "we should put our fears aside and for all to contribute to this great day for base jumping"
He stated that his group sees no need to hike five hours and donate their rigs and money to the
N.P.S. they have chosen a more accessible site
and plan to jump prior to Avery's group probably a night jump.
Unlike Avery's group they will ESCAPE ,realizing that without the help known informant SCOTT
BURKE the RANGERS will be better off rounding up stray bears.
They stated " The death of Frank Gambalie (R.I.P.) is the driving fource of their protest".
Not looking to make their group any bigger they suggest that others form their own loads!Joining
Avery in thier selfless effort to bring national attention the the heavy handed federal enforcement of a law that does not even apply to base jumping.

* obviously a egotistical exaggeration

I want to dispell this rumor immediately. This is not the first time I have heard this. I have been climbing in Yosemite for 25 years. I have done 26 El Cap routes as well as hundreds of other climbs in the valley. I have known Scott Burke for 20 years and I can say for sure that he is not an informant. I know this for a fact. He is spending a lot of time on El Cap for the last three years working on free climbing three routes. He has recently been working on freeing the Salathe Wall on the left side of The Nose. He is camped out on top a great deal of the time and he is an active member of the Yosemite Search and Rescue team with a park service radio, a SAR pager and a cell phone with him at all times. I am sure that he sees a few BASE jumps, but he is not a law enforcement officer or an informant. He just happens to be there and gets blamed when people tell their girlfriends or their friends that they are going to jump El Cap. Remember "loose lips sink ships". I suggest you all keep it zipped if you are even in a Natioinal Park and you'll see a big difference. There are lots of other people in Yosemite, however, who want to score brownie points with the rangers for whatever reason, but it's not Scott Burke, I assure you.

The park rangers themselves admitted that SCOTT BURKE is The Informant.I think it is a sad day when someone i beleive might be a base jumper defends an individual who has made the stake out obsolete, i.e. now a labor intensize stakeout is not needed because SCOTT BURKE makes a call from the launch point alerting the rangers of an impending jump.
He put himself in this position by being arrested for DRUGS in the park ... do the math
I sure he's your friend and a nice ... but arn't all snitches?

I don't know what ranger you talked to but as of 8:50 pm tonight Scott Burk has never been arrested in the park for drugs. Get it straight.

I too believe that Scott Burke is harmless. I've been on top with him a number of times and had no hassle in the meadow or around the park. He knows when I'm in Yo it's probably for base and he knows my vehicle. Whenwever we've been on top he's only carried a one way pager/scanner that LISTENS only to YOSAR. He is helpful, friendly, a little egotistical and waaaay into El Cap but I don't think he's the snitch. Ask YOSAR who they think it is and you'll come up with a different name. And yes this other person was busted for dope and needs the brownie points to stay in good favor.

Hello??? It's a fact confirmed by JOHN STOBINSKI's actions.

as to what KNOWN INFORMANT INFORMANT SCOTT BURKE carries allow me to quote Earl Redfern who has replied prior to you Crank

"He is camped out on top a great deal of the time and he is an active member of the Yosemite Search and Rescue team with a park service radio!!!, a SAR pager and a cell phone with him at all times."

To Quote you Crank
"Whenwever we've been on top he's only carried a one way pager/scanner that LISTENS only to YOSAR"

Get your facts straight
Maybe if he had of had his phone you also would of been popped?

Can i ask you what is a "pager scanner"?

My advise to anybody if KNOWN INFORMANT SCOTT BURKE is present at launch ... or anywhere Please walk back down unless you have a "pager scanner jammer" .

BASE 666,

With all due respect, you are wrong about Scott Burke. As a matter of fact, the rangers are upset with him because he has not given them information when asked to do so. He does not want to be in the middle of this. He just wants to climb. He loves it like you do BASE and he is very good at it. Believe me, if Scott had been busted for drugs anywhere, he would not be one of the primary members of the Yosemite Technical Search and Rescue Team. I know we all want to blame someone for several people getting busted for jumping El Cap, but I feel very strongly that most of those people had some form of security breach concerning their jump, prior to jumping. It is highly unlikely that a person on top who is with the jumper at all times prior to the jump can possibly call the rangers and have them waiting at the landing area BEFORE the jump takes place. I assure you that climbers in Yosemite respect and admire BASE jumpers more than you realize. I was a climber long before I took up skydiving or BASE jumping. In fact, I learned to skydive to get into a climb on Baffin Island that we could not get to any other way. So did the other members of my expedition team. I was on Mt. Asgard when Will Ox jumped Thor. I have a great deal of information to support the fact that jumpers who have a good plan, keep their mouths shut and have a specially trained and equipped ground crew are almost always successful at getting away. The fools who tell their friends to come and watch invariably attract others to the LZ including NPS LEO. Many of those successful jumpers had scanners and no call was made by Scott Burke. Please give this a rest, man. You do not have any basis for your accusations

Earl;

Don't bother with any reasonable, factual replys to "666's" rants. He daily shows himself as a reactionary fool on a variety of subjects on this board.
