"A Daring Leap"
By: Fred Reading

Oh! Why me, Lord?
The day was born with so much promise,
The air was crisp with so much autumn.
Oh! Why me, Lord?
Jan Davis loved leaping from heights,
Tall buildings with a single bound,
A super-woman with a silken parasol.
Oh! Why me, Lord?
She leaped from antennae broadcasting the news,
From spans that connected with water and lands,
Earth's geologic elevations beckoned her high.
"Oh! Lord, why me?" she muttered, and sighed.
Yosemite's call was clear and distinct,
"Come conquer my heights and enjoy my delights"
"Oh! Lord, why me?" she laughed, and took flight.
Tom was filming it all as she started her fall,
High up on El Capitan's spectacular granite wall,
I'm speaking my heart and trying to tell all,
B.A.S.E. Jumping's a sport,
not a crime,
but a ball!
Oh hell! Why not ME, Lord?
