Sorry to hear about the girl gett'n hurt. But it will only take a few more of these type people and then that bridge will be closed too!

Everyone needs to use extreme caution/care when jumping such an open sight...When you do foolish things & get careless you only ruin it for everyone else.

"pestering the doc to jump again", maybe next time she will get the bridge closed :( I hope she uses more care for all of us.

I have been involved in extrication of climbing and jumping injuries in several instances. Conversations with the local authorities revealed that they were impressed with our desire for and ability to effect "self rescue". In every case I've been involved in the Ranger/Sheriff/EMT or whatever commented that we are the least of their worries. They have more trouble with the beer drinker at the mountain picnic area that thinks he can "get up that little slope there" until he needs a helicopter to get his butt down. More helicopter evacuations are for sprained ankles or lower extremity cuts than any other cause.
As far as getting it shut down, you need to give the people who allow it to be open some credit for smarts. They know it isn't a merry-go-round. It's base jumping for goodness sake. We've convinced them and have demonstrated that we are capable.

I want to say here that I have been to Twin Falls, Idaho many times to jump the bridge. I have met the local police and I have found them to be extremely kind and realistic with regards to BASE jumping. I have had long conversations with several of them and I believe that they are on our side. I have taken many garbage bags of trash from under the bridge out on my fixed ropes and the police are aware that no BASE jumper will ever do anything detrimental to the community of Twin Falls. I would like to remind you all that this is an extremely unique situation and that we must always call the police dispatch phone number and let them know if we are there to BASE jump. They, in turn, let anyone calling 911 know that it is legal to BASE jump and that we have permission to be there from the local law enforcement personnel. This is what we are striving for all over this country and I consider it a "pilot program" to be treated with the utmost care when in Twin Falls. I am told that a member of the city commission wanted to stop us and that the police said that we were "good people and not hurting anyone". I think we should make a special effort to commend the law enforcement community and the City of Twin Falls Idaho for setting an example for the rest of America to follow.

You're absolutely right, of course; he needs to learn some good manners, as do the yahoos who gave Nanette and me both a ration after I did what I thought a a bit of public service to let Nanette's friends know generally what happened and how she was doing.

Unfortunately, BASE has become big enough to include bozos who kick dogs and steal purses from old ladies, and teaching manners to people like that can generally be done only with a baseball bat or a bullet, and none of those yahoos are worth spending any time in jail for -- it's bad enough going to jail for jumping in OUR parks!

Maybe we can steer the yahoos to Wreck dot skydiving... that's certainly wehre they belong.

Your ignorance of the situation in Twin Falls is rivaled only by the utter and complete lack of courtesy training provided to you by the inbreeders who bred you.

No offence mate, but you sound like a righteous condescending and pompous old fart, which I'm sure youre not, having such a low BASE number and all...

ps even your grammar and spelling is starting to deteriorate - what is the world coming to?

Hey,
I can honestly say that I would hesitate to trust anyone with such poor grammar skills, it only shows inconsideration to think anyone would want to read your crap. You must be kidding. Since you didn't spell offense right, I can guarantee you no offense will be taken. If you are dyslexic my sympathies, but you shouldn't drag us down with you.

Well, mate, you're right, mostly; I am a righteous, condescending old fart. Sometimes I'm even pompous, but it's so easy to be condescending to Ill-Mannered, Poorly Educated Yahoos board who seem to be so proud of their ignorance and lack of etiquette.

I mean, if you have a better approach, I'd be glad to hear it, but slapping IMPEYs upside the head is the only way I know to _maybe_ get their attention.

As for my spelling and grammar, my spelling errors are typos 99 percent of the time, and I do some stream-of-consciousness writing sometimes which doesn't quite conform to the norm... and you know, the only reason I pointed out Tom's grammar errors was to make the humorous point that _he_ shouldn't be nitpicking little stuff -- and then one of the IMPEYs took it seriously and made a federal case out of it.

That's why I sound condescending, I guess; I really _don't_ have any use for people with kindergarten-level reading comprehension who boast about it.

What exactly do you mean by "maybe next time she will get the bridge closed!" What! Your wishing her to go in next time! With voodoo like that I don't think you should continue jumping! Do us all a favor and stop now! Your just a paraplegic case waiting to happen! I wouldn't be going to the edge with the voodoo your carrying! -just my two cents!

I hate it when I don't even need to read the followups before I can reply.

BASE jumping is dangerous. We all know that, we knew that before we stepped into the sport and most of us already have the misfortune of having a dead jump-mate.

As this is a dangerous sport, we need to take the best precautions EVERY SINGLE JUMPS. We all know that we can die, some fear it more, some fear it less.

But under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will the legality of a jump effect my security. I hate to sat that, but the bottom line of your posting was "TRY NOT TO GET YOURSELF INJURED, OR I'LL LOSE MY SITE". Needless to say, this attitude will not be popular among your fellow jumpers.

Another thing: Accidents are exactly that - accidents. Planning has nothing to do with it either ways, so don't think that just because YOU don't plan to hurt, it's not going to happen. I broke a thumb on a jump. You know what I did? I drew conclusions and made sure it never happened again.

To all my fellow jumpers: the only GOOD thing you can do with an accident is learn from it. Do not criticize the injured, less than that the dead.
