I have been looking at a lot of BASE related web sites recently and was wondering about any legal concerns about "illegal" jump pictures. Can the authorities charge you with a crime by seeing a picture of it months or years later? Is there a time frame that they need to do it in? What about video of "illegal" jumps? Just curious to see if anyone has ever been busted "after the fact". CYA, 570

We've seen BASE jumpers get into trouble with the authorities after something is aired (or printed). Sometimes it's a property owner that wants to press trespassing charges after the property owner sees the news piece. If I'm not mistaken a incriminating photo or video can be used to prosecute someone.

Generally, with the exception of construction sites that are properly posted (felony in some states,) and stretching the use of communication laws relating to interruption/impediment of service, trespassing is a misdemeanor with prosecutorial time limits governed by the statute of limitations. Depending on state, usually 1-3 years.
"Your Honor, here is a picture of Mr. Snoshenburg (looks like me, but isn't)leaping from Xxxx 2 years ago. Although we could find no other violation of law, and have no instrumentality of the crime (rig,) we feel the defendant reaped the fruits of the crime (adrenaline) which warrant our time, effort, and the citizens' expense to bring this case before the court, just prior to the statute of limitations running out."
Possible? The way the system is today... yes. Likely? I don't think so. Best check for yourself. Library is a good place to start.

Interesting subject!!!
As the web slave of the A.B.A.:
http://trak.to/base
I must say that all photos on our site are in fact digital montages constructed using common layering techniques.
Fake free falling images are superimposed over photos of likely sites, some of which are unjumpable, then merged in such a way to make them look "realistic."
I take great pride in our members skill in this "Art Form." Some montages are so good it is almost possible to imagine the person actually doing it.
Aaahhhhh.......Technology....Love it!
Cheers

Yo !
This argument has been successfully used in Norway recently: something like "we have pictures of you jumping *** from Internet" - "in half an hour at my PC, i will have a picture of the judge jumping ***" - "... ok, nevermind" ;-)
Can the ones involved first hand correct me if i'm wrong ?
bsbd!

A good disclaimer for any "fun" BASE web site might be:
"This Site is Provided for Amusement Purposes Only"
or
"Persons shown herein are stripped headshots on professional model's bodies."
So how long before someone puts up a (fake) celebrity BASE page?
"Pictured above is George W. Bush freefalling the Washington Monument, "Airplanes are for sissies," says the Presidential hopeful.
