I just read with interest the posting & related link re: EME from transmitters. I was just wondering if anyone had any sort of info about wires and the steel thingys that go with them. How come sometimes you get little shocks and sometimes you don't. My friend had ones that were big and sparking constantly every time he touched metal while everyone else was ok. I'm mostly wondering what the real variables are and what can be done to aleviate the situation. I don't think it's that big a deal, more curiosity (although it can be a little unnerving, getting zapped as you climb out on something). Any factual info is appreaciated.

Beware: This may cause your testicles to swell to great proportions!
That was a Joke!
I just asked my DAD whom works for the Power Company (Hes a total Brain) about the towers. He has worked on and around such things for several years now.
He said that the voltage must be REAL high for this to happen. Those who are shocked must be grounding on something. He recommended wearing gloves if not already.
*He also urges you to spend as little time on these as possible!
Hope this helps!!!

Have noticed that you get shocked more, the closer you get into walking between the arms. Even more so when you are on the middle one, with one obove and one below. Its like you are standing in the middle of a huge flux field. Really bad static on dry cold nights.
If you keep touching metal when you are standing there you will release some of the charge that keeps building. Just stand there for a couple of minutes and then touch the metal and you will be impressed with the size of the spark, and that warm fuzzy feeling.
It always gives me the creeps to be walking on the armatures on power towers, It feels like im not supose to be there.
Also I have always afraid to take a leek between the wires when standing there.
