View Full Version : Video footage: 180 with line twist and recovery

hi everybody,

i thought it might be helpful to share my very personal experience of a 180 opening including line twist on a jump form kjerag/norway exit point #6 which i have on my video footage.

unfortunately the mpeg-zip-file which covers the situation in slow motion ist still approx. 6mb - sorry about that. however i believe it could be of great help for those who never ever experienced such a scenario on a jump.

i had almost the same experience twice within 3 jumps on 2 subsequent days and i assume that the reason has been on both jumps my gainer exit. because of this i might had an unsymetrical body position or even worst - my leg streps might have been in a unnormal position during opening.

anyhow it was quite an interesting experience and i believe that i could deal properly with it because i always mentally anticipated this a worst case scenario before each jump and i thought about a potential recovery reaction. as it happened then to me my first time i dealt with it more or less automatically. this follows my theory that most of what we can do in our sport is do be properly trained and try to handle our risc management as good as we can.

hope it helps

see you at the edge elsewhere - but most likely in norway next summer,

p.s. since it is not possible to post a file larger than 500 mb i am unable to attach the video footage here. any recommendations! hey mick can you help out or shall i mail it to you for the posting!? thanks!

Bernhard my old friend...

You have to stop doing those gainers! I can remember in 2001 a nice 180 with riser twist you had from #6 in Kjerag due to your porpoising (it wasn't actually the gainer because it was a 14 second delay...but then again, maybe it was the gainer that caused the porpoising)...and what a wonderful recovery it was! Your recovery was used on my student video and many people learned from your perfect reaction by steering the canopy away from the wall before you got out of the twist.

Please send me the latest Bernhard recovery video...

jimjenningsmpa@yahoo.com.

Thanks mate.
