Greetings:
I want to say to who ever cares to hear that even though the weekend was mared by the tragedy of Dwains' fatality the Games were a huge triumph for the BASE community. Across the board the Games were considered tremendously successful. Those three days were a glorious expression of existential joy. And they have added considerable legitimacy to general publics' understanding and appreciation of BASE jumping and BASE jumpers. Very many people were and are deeply impacted by the tragic finality of Sunday afternoon and there is still a great deal of healing left to accomplish. None of this is easy even though what's done is done and cannot be undone. But what is still to be done is waiting for us over the horizon of the future. It is up to each of us as individuals to decide how we will interact with that horizon. We all grieve and cope in our own ways and in our own times. But I for one want to reiterate that the weekend was really incredibly positive for all involved. The folks at Go-Fast deserve a great deal of credit for all their efforts as do the tremendous staff of the Royal Gorge Bridge. I also want to say how really wonderfull the Canon City locals were and are. These folks whole heartedly embraced the event and the participants. Many of these same locals opened up their hearts and homes to the athletes after the tragedy even though they themselves were reeling in shock.
These fine folks will welcome the Games back with that same wholehearted enthusiasm next year. That in itself says volumes about the positive effect of the Go-Fast Games. On a final and note I want to personally thank all of you who reached out to me in compassion and understanding. You all have my deepest appreciation and respect. If there is ever anything I can do for any of you please do not hesitate to ask. Most sincerely, Philo.
