foresthill used to have one or two days that were legal for jumping, arranged i believe by dennis m., under a film permit thru the city. does this still happen yearly or is defunct? if it is still going on what are the dates for 2001? i think it was june-ish, when brenda and dennis got married...ibpc?

Indeed.
The IPBC was able to get permits for two years.
In 1997 we had 24 competitors jumping, legally.
We returned to Auburn in 1998, with 40 jumpers.
In those two years we made hundreds of legal,
organized, well managed jumps, two injuries.
In 1999, they refused to issue the permit.
We did not re-apply in 2000, we went to Idaho.

Actually, that object is not in NPS territory.
It's a Placer County owned bridge.
The landing area is in a California State Park.
We had to get seperate permits for each entity.
Similar to NRGB, where the object is owned by
the State of West Virginia, and the landing area
is in NPS territory.
For B'Day, the NPS does issue a BASE permit.

No, actually, Placer County has a specific
ordinance prohibiting use of the bridge
for "recreational flight".

which is better. getting caught by the placer county sheriff and getting charged with "recreational flying" or getting hooked by the nps under "illegal air delivery"? in terms of penaltys. I assume getting caught jumping there is $2000 fine, gear confiscation, probation, police record, (20 years to life, lethal injection, etc...)

I dunno....
That's an odd question.
It's better not to get caught.
I can tell you which one is worse.
The penalties of the NPS are far worse.

Fines at Auburn have been as low as $75.
But as time goes on, the fines get steeper.
Some have paid $300, some got "time", some gear
has been confiscated for a period of time as well.

The NPS habitually relieves you of your gear,
and the fines of up to $2000 as you already know.

In both cases probation always seems to linger....
