Troy Hartman (host) of MTV's new show "Senseless Acts of Video" shoots the steel at the Auburn bridge with a triple gainer! This is just one in a series of aerial feats attempted in each show.
The premier episode airs this thursday January 27th at 10:30PM on MTV
Check it out.

it pains me to think of BASE jumping as a senseless act, and for all the whuffos to think the same...

Look out everybody, here they come again:
"You Asked For It" (The Granddaddy of them all).
"That's Incredible"
"Incredible Sunday"
"StuntMasters"
"When Stunts Go Bad"
"When the Bad Do Stunts" (Okay, I made that one up).
"The Ultimate Challenge" (I see they gave Evil the heave).
"Senseless Acts of Video"
Anne filmed Troy's jump in freefall. And she got a real spanking when she returned to the shop.
You'll see why . . . gulp . . if they show it. If they don't show it, well . . . never mind :-)

Wow! Nice gainers Troy and a big "ker-plunk" for Anne! Awesome video Anne. I'm guessing you now hold the record for that bridge? :)
CYA in Moab in 3 weeks....

Nice gainers? I think not! To see nice gainers, look to those who actually train to prepare for them on the dive platform or in the gym, analyze the video over and over, and accept no less than 100%. Don't praise the Josh McVey's or the Troy Hartman's.
About 100 jumps and already doing triple gainers from 700 feet? Hmmmm, I would say that qualifies as a senseless act. From both troy and anne...
Maybe after thorough training and a couple hundred jumps I will work up the nerve to attempt one. Natural selection's not gonna get me!
Oh, I don't want to miss this. Gotta go!

>Nice gainers? I think not! ...those who actually train
Dude, if you think you need a diving coach to do gainers, then you are mistaken. The whole "I have a diving coach" thing is way overrated and annoying. Do you think the @70-100 jumpers who do flips on b-day are all "trained"? I can't argue with you on the fact that aerials are dangerous, especially at 186'. But, they an be done safely....you'll understand when you try one!

Diving coach thing annoying? Who overrates this stuff? You and all the B-day folk? Where are you coming from? Since I've been in the sport for 1 year now, one person has died from pushing himself to emulate those who do gainiers (josh m.), one who did a gainer and had line twists - couldn't clear them and collided with the hillside injuring himself to the point of needing a rescue, and my girlfriend who was almost killed by a newbie doing gainers who thinks, "I wonder what kind of trajectory I'm getting off these things." (She's just as clueless).
I want to do gainers and live my friend! Go read Dwain's article again on the australian base board titled "go long, not hard." Accept no less than 100%!
B-day gainer? No thanks! I don't want to be one of those guys who does a gainer at B-day and have the crowd go, "Ooooh, Ahhhhh, Doh! He sure is lucky!" I want to do a gainer in style, safely, and minimize the chances of killing myself, or someone else.
Obviously, deployment in an unstable position can be disasterous. I want to develop a sense of how to control my body in dead-air freefall before I actually do a gainer on a BASE jump. Call me CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZY, but I'm gonna listen to people who know what they are talking about...

Yes, 100( /-) jumps is premature to do triples through the steel. However, the camera person with many hundreds of jumps failed to even remain stable, and then burned it to the deck coming within feet of bouncing. Just what we need on TV!
Little ironic eh?

Out of anger of almost attending their funerals or possibly spoon feeding her, I failed to place part of the miscalculation in judgement on her. They both made mistakes to learn from, which I hope they do.
And, she didn't get unstable until she saw a canopy blossoming in her face and that was only to avoid it. Personally, I think she should be commended for surviving that situation, but condemned for making a foolish, foolish mistake.
She should have opted for royalties...

I've had the opportunity to get Ann's side of the story and also study the video.
A good slow-mo review of the video shows Troy doing a clean jump, (loved the part where the guy says, "Hey Troy, ya just gonna jump, or ya gonna bust out a trick?"
My reaction to Troy's feats are tainted by the fact I know and like him. He doesn't at all seem "new" to me.
On whatever miscalculation may have occurred, I'll give Anne credit for not wrapping them both, something that could have occurred easily and something a less experienced jumper may have been more prone to do.

428,
What could you be implying with your retort, "Enough said?" For all you know, I may have spent the last year constantly surrounded by some of the most experienced BASE jumpers, soaking up all the knowledge I can. Relentlessly questioning them to find the most accurate answers. Learning every aspect of the gear and participating in testing of new innovative equipment and the manufacturing of it. Pouring over all the written material on BASE jumping, and watching many many hours of BASE video. And, even going out and dong a hundred or so BASE jumps off many different objects.
What's wrong with approaching a dangerous aspect of a dangerous sport with caution and reserve? What's wrong with learning to understand how to maneuver the body in subterminal air without making a BASE jump? Why would I not want to listen to the worlds leading aerial BASE jumper? Why would I want to listen to some guy with a web page? Why do I even bother to explain myself???
