I am 16. I am extremely interested in BASE jumping and coming from a family where no one skydives it is hard to find people to talk to and get info and help from. I am wondering what I need to do to start. What is helpful. Hints on becoming a good jumper. Anything that can help me fly. I hope that you can help me. Ive contacted many skydiving companies about skydiving regulations and such but have come back with minimal response. I understand that to BASE jump you first need to have many airplane jumps under your belt. I am very interested and determined and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. -David-

Try dropzone.com for information on skydiving. I think to become a good jumper you have to be able to make decisions with out having others influance you and also be able to listen and learn from other jumpers. Quick reactions and a cool head will help you as well.

Hey Dave,
PeTeRbAse is absolutely right. Use this time and read, ask questions, and learn. Knowledge will keep you alive and maybe save the lives of one of your friends. Most of the best BASE jumpers in the world read and post on this site so you have a invaluable source for BASE information. You have already taken a step in the right direction by asking for help. Never be afraid to ask anything you are not 100% sure of. Being only 16 you have no worrys, I would guess the average age of a BASE jumper 32-37 years old. You have plenty of time. I know waiting SUCKS!

David,

if your in the california area drop me a line. my email is mchurch@calpoly.edu, i would be more then happy to meet up and help you get the information that you need. i made my first skydive when i was 17 so i know how you feel about tryin to start early. not many places will let you skydive at 16, but they are out there. you're right that you definitelly should have a good number of skydives before you consider getting into BASE jumping. if you are nowhere near california then my biggest suggestion would be just to not get too rushed, take your time to learn everything you can and be safe.
