Seems to me we have a partial resolution to the ongoing debate about what to do when someone goes in or, as in Slim's case, gets badly injured.
For those who don't remember, a scumbag paramedic sold or gave the video of Slim's crash to the local TV station. In this case, maybe it was the cops. In any event, taking gear off the body may not be a good legal idea, but it sure doesn't hurt to grab the digi if you're gonna book after the bounce. |

Anyone have the name and phone number of the homicide detective that showed the tape at DeLand?
I'm going to have a nice little chat with the donut fuccking bastard who leaked the tape to the press. I am so goddamned sick of fat, overpaid, fascist cops doing idiotic crap on the public dole, and this time I ain't just going to sit and grumble. I'll make sure every goddamned person in the Florida government knows of this little escapade and knows who was responsible. First Slim, now this. Grrrrrr. . . . D-d0g |

Orange County Sheriff's Detective Rick Lallement was one of the idiots who told the Orlando Sentinel newspaper that BASE jumpers were "cocky" and "stupid"
I sent him an email a few days ago after reading his crap on the Orlando Sentinel website. I tracked down the Orange County Sheriff's Dept email: ocsoinfo@ocfl.net I assume they'll pass anything along to him. My only question for the detective: When you die, will anyone care? Hundreds, if not thousands, of people knew and cared about Lee. |

As part of Lee's extended family, it really saddens me to think that the video of his last jump is being broadcast all over the country. I didn't see Lee much but the last time I did see him he showed the family a video he took of another jump. I really admired him because he was doing what he loved. It makes me think of my own mortality and how we should all live our lives to the fullest as he did. Lee we love you.

I just sent their Police Dept. a nice e-mail describing what pieces of ##### they are!! I hope everyone else will do the same. A brother as descent as Lee deserves not to have his death glorified to the mindless sheep who make up the majority of this country. May the pigs rot in hell!!

Although I did not personally know Lee, I too, have now sent an e-mail to the Orange County Sheriff's Office to let my opinion on Det. Lallement's statements be known...I also told them that I felt that the media's release of the video was one of the most blatant disregards of respect that could have been shown to Lee Werling's family and friends. >( Why is it that the media and the general public have to thrive so on others' misfortunes?:-(

It is not going to help getting pissed about it, the TV stations are not doing anything different here to what has been happening , and will be happening for hundreds of years. What happens when a race car driver dies, do they show the video ? When a drag racer dies ?? When a jet Pilot crashes and burns ??? Off course they show the video, and all base jumpers have seen thse videos before and watched them. A base bounce is no different dudes, just harder to accept, because it's now one of our kind that we're watching, and not a nameless, faceless race car driver.
